The Sunless Throne
The Sunless Throne: Aurelhold, the Ghost King's city. Aurelian, the Sun King, wore a crown his chancellor Morvane forged against the Greying: none of his people would ever die. None did; the Greying took their bodies and the crown kept their souls. His knights still stand their watch, his queen still weeps in the chapel she was walled into, his funeral never ended, and the king does whatever the Keeper of the Crown tells him. Endgame. From the Greyed Gate through the Mourning Streets to the Funeral Road; west the Hall of Oaths (Ser Gallowmere), east the Walled Chapel (Queen Maerwen), either order; their deaths break the two seals of the Sunless Gate, behind which wait the Crown Vault and the throne. Crew drops T10-T11, the bosses T11-T12, stat potions and five uniques.

How the Sunless Throne plays
Aurelhold, the Ghost King's own city. Endgame (grade 9): bring a level 20 character with real gear, and friends. The portal drops half the time from the realm's
Ghost King, the hero of the haunted tower.
Long before the Mad God, Aurelian ruled the highlands from Aurelhold and his people called him the Sun King. When the Greying came, a sickness that drained the colour out of the living, his chancellor Morvane forged him a crown and swore that none of his people would ever die. None did. The Greying took their bodies anyway, and the crown kept their souls. Everything in Aurelhold is grey now except the gold of the crown. Walk through the city and it tells you the rest.
- The Greyed Gate and the Mourning Streets. The townsfolk still walk their errands.
Greyed Citizens drift at you in twos and threes, and each one scatters a ring of wisps when it falls: everyone here dies twice.
Lamplighter Shades throw lamps of cold fire.
Pale Heralds ring Slowing peals, steady the ghosts around them, and cry the Crown's proclamations: listen, they are the story. - The Funeral Road. The king's funeral never ended. A
Funeral Bell at the west end sends out columns of
Endless Mourners that walk the road weeping tears to both sides. You cannot hurt them: cross between the columns. North of the road, the Sunless Gate is sealed twice. - The Hall of Oaths (west, through the Barracks Yard with its
Oathbound Knights,
Spectral Lancers and
Guard Crossbowmen).
Ser Gallowmere, the Oathbound swore to stand until the king's last breath. He advances with fans of steel (stand in the gap), flashes before he lunges (step aside; his wake trails behind him) and plants his sword for a ring, so back off when he does. Under half his sword burns gold: two crosses of gold blades turn opposite ways and his guard marches in from the door. His death breaks the Oath Seal. - The Walled Chapel (east, through the Queen's Garden with its
Rosewraiths and
ladies).
Queen Maerwen, the Veiled was walled in for refusing the second crown. She weaves tears in a slow spiral, fans of lilac and fast aimed tears, and tears fall where you stand. At 60 % she fades into the mirrors: break her three
Veiled Reflections. Under 30 % she hunts you and screams: a nova first, then a fast ring. Her death breaks the Veil Seal. - The Crown Vault. The empty treasury and the cold forge where the crown was made, guarded by
Vault Wardens. - The Sunless Throne.
Morvane, the Crownkeeper drifts round the throne room with a spiral of soul bolts and green marks under you, and every few seconds the bound king answers "...Yes, Master." with a ring of gold. At half Morvane hides behind four
Soul Cages: break them to free the souls. When he dies,
Aurelian, the Hollow King takes the crown for himself: a turning sunburst of gold rays, then the echoes of his knight and his queen fight beside him, and at last "There is no sun in Aurelhold": he hunts you and the sun falls where you stand.
Uniques: Oathkeeper (Gallowmere's shield), Mourning Veil (Maerwen's robe), Crownkeeper's Skull (Morvane), Sunfall (the Sun King's sword) and the Sunless Crown, a ring that will not let you die (once every two minutes), though the Greyed do not heal. The tarot card here is the Ten of Swords.

...Yes, Master.
My Master is gone... then I will do it myself!
I was the sun of this city.
Kneel before your king!
The gold is all that is left of me.
Rise, my court. None of you may rest.
There is no sun in Aurelhold.
Is this what you came for? Take it!

You smell of the living. Did he send you? Does he still wear it?
Look at me. Look at what he let them do to me.
You break only glass.
